Advanced Clustering Presents: HPC System Design

Advanced Clustering Technologies made a presentation today at the invitation of Swarthmore College, which hosted a Mindshare on “High Performance Computing in the Liberal Arts” over the course of the last two days. All schools within the Consortium of Liberal Arts Colleges (CLAC), which compromises 70 member institutions, were invited to attend.

Advanced Clustering President/CTO Kyle Sheumaker presented “HPC System Design” at the High Performance Computing in the Liberal Arts event today at Swarthmore College.

The purpose of the event was to share information about ways that liberal arts colleges can gain access to high-performance computing resources to advance their work. As academic research becomes increasingly reliant on computational analysis, the availability of high performance computing resources becomes critically important.

Kyle Sheumaker, President and CTO of Advanced Clustering Technologies, presented on the topic of “HPC System Design,” which focused on HPC cluster and processor architecture options as well as things to consider when designing an HPC system. Sheumaker also shared resources that are available as liberal arts college personnel work to leverage high performance computing for their campuses.

Some CLAC member institutions maintain their own HPC systems while others rely on public or cloud computing systems. Some institutions are still navigating the process of figuring out how to provide resources to their faculty and students.

The purpose of this Mindshare event was to learn what other CLAC schools are doing with HPC, to share leading practices and to strategize about how to best support users.
