General Atomics

General Atomics was seeking an economical high performance computing solution to run its small and intermediate simulations of toroidally-confined plasmas using GYRO, NIMROD and ORBIT-RF. Toroidally-confined plasmas (or Tokamaks) are massively-parallel simulations that require floating point and high network performance. Using external accounts at large super computing centers slowed productivity due to the amount of time waiting for compute cycles.

Research Institute at NCH

An important, strategic goal established by Dr. Veronica Vieland of the Research Institute at Nationwide Children’s Hospital was to develop an in-house software package to implement statistical genetics methodologies developed within the Institute. The software could then be used to assist with other data analyses.

Argonne Materials Science Division

As battery developers work to create larger lithium-ion batteries they are faced with three main challenges: safety, cost, and calendar life. Argonne National Laboratory's Material Science Division set out to create better lithium batteries, but needed to harness the power of a larger cluster to make it happen.
